Located on the Avenue du 2e Cuirassier in Gémenos, Les Arômes occupies a discreet 1930s house set back from the road and surrounded by Provençal vegetation. Positioned at the edge of the village, between the lower slopes of the Sainte‑Baume massif and the open countryside, the setting feels calm and residential rather than overtly destination-driven. A garden planted with olive trees and a series of small, light-filled rooms reinforce the impression of stepping into a private home rather than a formal restaurant.

This sense of intimacy is mirrored in the way the house is run. Les Arômes is very much a two-person story, shaped by the complementary roles of Yannick Besset in the kitchen and his partner Françoise Besset in the dining room. Yannick’s approach reflects a long-standing commitment to his craft, rooted in continuity rather than constant reinvention. Over time, he has become a familiar figure within the local dining scene, maintaining a quiet presence and a hands-on involvement in the day-to-day life of the restaurant.

Françoise, meanwhile, is the face of the house, welcoming guests and guiding the rhythm of service with consistency and attentiveness. Together, they create a setting that feels personal and grounded, where the structure of the experience is built on familiarity and balance. The restaurant operates on a rhythm that changes daily, with menus evolving from one day to the next, reflecting a clear sense of pride in the ingredients they choose to work with.

Within this framework, the experience unfolds in a way that feels both spontaneous and carefully guided. A standout dish of ceviche brought a sense of clarity and precision, while the overall approach suggested that, with a more refined presentation, certain plates could easily align with a more elevated level. The combination of a small, owner-run house, a constantly changing menu and a strong connection between kitchen and dining room gives Les Arômes its distinct identity in Gémenos.
