Hiša Linhart

Radovljica – Slovenia

Hiša Linhart isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a soulful celebration of Slovenian heritage, culinary memory, and heartfelt hospitality. Set in the medieval town of Radovljica, this historic townhouse once belonged to Anton Tomaž Linhart, Slovenia’s first playwright. Today, it’s home to a dining experience that honors the past while embracing the future.

A Chef Rooted in Place and Memory
Chef Uroš Štefelin, a native of the region, brings decades of experience and a deep reverence for Slovenian tradition. His approach is refreshingly humble—favoring flavor and storytelling over culinary theatrics. Before founding Hiša Linhart, he earned acclaim at Vila Podvin, where his devotion to local ingredients and inventive techniques gained national and international recognition.

Marcela Štefelin, his wife and partner in hospitality, manages the guesthouse and infuses the space with warmth and grace. Together, they’ve created a destination where guests feel genuinely welcomed—from the first greeting to the final farewell.

Cuisine with Character
Uroš’s menu is a tapestry of regional stories and personal memories. One recurring motif is the “tepka” pear—a fruit historically planted in the region to ensure sustenance. It appears throughout the meal: in the butter’s shape and flavor, and again in the main course, anchoring the experience in local tradition.

Other dishes are inspired by family lore. Sweetbreads with mushrooms pay homage to his grandmother’s cooking, while a dessert of vanilla pudding, raspberry, and mint transforms a childhood love-hate relationship into something sublime. A standout for many is the house-made pasta with morels and radicchio—earthy, elegant, and utterly crave-worthy.

Hospitality That Lingers
What sets Hiša Linhart apart is not just the food, but the soul behind it. Uroš is remarkably approachable—he chats with guests upon arrival, serves dishes personally, and sends them off with a warm goodbye. His humility stands in contrast to Slovenia’s more high-profile culinary stars, yet his cuisine speaks volumes: original, delicious, and deeply personal.

Hiša Linhart is a place where history and heart converge. It’s not just about what’s on the plate, but the stories behind each ingredient, the warmth of the welcome, and the quiet brilliance of a chef who cooks with memory, meaning, and mastery.
